Fave Finds For Auction! Ebay 22 November...

Remember this gorgeous lace illusion number by Sorelle Fontana from my very first post? It will be up for auction in my ebay shop next Sunday night (22 November) and is my fave pick. This bombshell dress an amazing piece of fashion history! It is a very rare find indeed - coveted Italian label, in near mint condition (museum quality). Size is a vintage size 14 (modern size approx Australian 10-12 or universal medium-large). Please note the dress looks big on my AU size 8 model (I wouldn't dare pin it).

Three sisters formed Sorelle Fontana (sisters Fontana) in Rome in 1943. In the years to follow, the glamourous designs of Sorelle Fontana became much sort-after by European aristocracy and royalty. By the 1950's Sorelle Fontana was well-known in the United States. Their customers included Hollywood stars and famous women such as Grace Kelly, Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Kim Novak, and Jacqueline Kennedy.

A little more about the dress...it features beautiful black chantilly lace which floats over black satin acetate taffeta. Lace is scalloped on neckline, back and sleeves. There is a layer of black tulle underneath the lace for added strength. Classic wiggle cut which creates an hourglass appearance. Shelf bust is fitted and strapless. Metal zipper at back with hook and eye closure. Exquisitely tailored...of course!

The dress looks 50's however the label says "export" and in 1960 Sorelle Fontana launched their ready-to-wear collection for the US market. The dress could possibly be from the first ready-to-wear collection.

Here are two other vintage faves which will be up for auction next Sunday night too. Ever so pretty 50's pink, white and cream party dress and fabulous 70's black chiffon pleat flutter sleeve dress.

Four other fab items will also be up for auction next Sunday night... another 70's black chiffon flutter dress, 80's Gunne Sax shimmer top, 70's diamond cluster ring (real diamonds), and Samantha Wills vintage style "Wow Factor" necklace. An Angel At My Table

Yes, I believe in angels, however this post is not about an angel at my table, it is about an online shop called An Angel At My Table...
These divine birdcage mirrors and other heavenly vintage inspired homewares can be found at

Silhouetted To a Tee

Silhouette art is so eye-catching! I particularly love silhouette portraits. This elegant portrait of my beautiful Mum (aged 18) was done in 1950 by well-known scissor artist S. John Ross (1919-2008).

Affectionately known as "The Silhouette Man", S. John Ross created thousands of portraits at shows/fairs here in Australia from the late 40's for almost 60 years. In his native country, the USA, he worked at fairs and in Hollywood before moving to Australia. S. John Ross created portraits for many celebrities and famous people including Spencer Tracey, Mikey Rooney, Vivien Leigh, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Nicole Kidman and Queen Elizabeth II. He really was a legend!

Custom silhouettes make wonderful keepsakes and heirlooms. I have found two terrific artists on etsy who create custom hand-cut silhouettes from photos...

Peggy at The Vintage Button Jar

And Jenny Lee Fowler. Jenny also creates silhouettes from photos of dogs and cats.
