Wonderland Inspired L♥veliness

Continuing on from my last post...

This l♥vely wedding inspiration shoot was photographed by Jessica Claire, styled by Rebecca Stone of Duet Weddings, and Kate Holt of Flowerwild did the floral arrangements.

The charming original vintage dress features French lace and handmade applique flowers. French anemones, huckleberry and sword fern were used to create the bouquet which complemented the dress perfectly .

An eclectic array of floral arrangements, depression era glassware, sugared cherries, pomegranates and crystal balls were included on the sumptuous table setting.

The etsy seller whose Delish Kitchenalia I featured here last week is Maria from the fox and the spoon.

The vintage egg cups above, and the vintage embroidered poinsettia tablecloth and napkins below are recent delish purchases of mine from Maria, all subtly Christmassy. Back in May this year I also featured my lovely vintage flower picking basket here that I purchased from Maria.

There's lots of vintage homewares and other vintage items at the fox and the spoon that would make great Christmas gifts. I must say that Maria's blog, quince jam, where she shares her cooking and her vintage finds, is also delish. :)

Old Fashioned Florals to Wear

The owner of the fabulous creative space featured in last week's post is Paula from Wychbury. Paula creates fashion accessories inspired by nature and history. Also from Wychbury, Lesley creates jewellery inspired too by nature and history. All the items from Wychbury are romantically nostalgic and make great Christmas gifts.

The Johhny Jump Up hair pin above is a custom pin I asked Paula to make for me. Love it! The poppy hair pin below is another pin made by Paula that I also purchased. Love it too!

This is one of Lesley's Secret Garden Necklaces with bluebells. I have one of these on order. Mine will have some different colours to this one. I'm sure I'll love it and will be sharing it here of course.

And this is the lovely Christmas packaging for the December orders of carded items from the Wychbury Etsy shop.

Acetate lined. Elasticized waist. Size S M L. The second skirt has cotton fabric and lace panels accented with ribbon. Lace frill accented with ribbon on bottom of skirt. Velvet section at bottom of skirt also. Acetate lined. Elasticized waist. Size S - M.

This week I decided it's time to destash some of my vintage fashion treasures. I've been sorting through my vintage clothing and accessories and have been working out what I'm going to part with and auction on eBay.

Next week I'll give you sneak peeks of the fabulous and gorgeous one-of-a-kind treasures I'm going to be auctioning soon.

The doll in the photo above is one of my favourite movie stars, Jane Powell. Click on the photo to enlarge it. I purchased the 50's photo from someone who inherited a lot of vintage photos and memorabilia from a relative who was employed by Metro Goldwyn Meyer as a cinematographer. Typed on the back of the photo is "MGM's Jane Powell goes on shopping spree during her Las Vegas, Nevada appearance."

Mary's blog Apron of Grace is a lovely food and lifestyle blog with vintage flair. The gorgeous cake above - Rose Bouquet Strawberry Birthday Cake - is also pink inside and was made by Mary as a Birthday cake for her lucky neighbour.

A collector of red vintage kitchen items, here is Mary's vintage butter churn containing milk from her adorable Guernsey cow Daisy.

Two of my favourite recipes from Apron of Grace - Frozen Maple Mousse with Maple Sauce and Mabel's Potatoes.

This is a vintage hanky apron Mary inherited. Isn't it sweet? It's made from five hankies. Mary has shared how to make it here.

First Lady

Purchased at a cent sale for 10 cents when I was 5 years old, this lovely porcelain lady was the first vintage thing I ever purchased! I purchased her as a gift for my Mum and she is one of Mum's favourite things.

This lady is a mystery lady. Her maker is unknown and she has remained nameless until recently. I was taking these photos of her the other day at my parents place and was thinking about a suitable name for her. Among a few other names the name Dorie came to mind. When I looked up the name Dorie I found out that it can be short for Eudora which means "good gift". How perfect! So Eudora is her name now!

green bug bags

Featuring some of the repurposed fabulousness by Heather from green bug bags this week. Love the story behind the name green bug bags too.

Heather says:

One of my first loves was a 67 VW beetle. I saw an ad for the car in a local coffee shop and soon it became my green bug. For the next 15 years, it took me everywhere and became part of my identity. I was the girl with the green bug.

Now, my green bug has inevitably become a "less practical" car to drive. Although it might not take me everywhere anymore, I decided to take it with me on a different journey. I created a business that combines my love of art, thrifting, and creativity, and I named it green bug bags. Hope you will be along for the ride!

Heather uses vintage and preloved fabrics to create her bags. All the bags you see in this post have been created using vintage fabrics. The first and fourth bags you see were created using vintage tablecloths.

Johnny Jump Up And Kiss Me!

The old fashioned favourite Johnny Jump Up is a favourite flower of mine. This cheery little flower pops up in Spring, and among many other names is also known as Johnny Jump Up And Kiss Me and Heartsease.

Traditionally associated with matters of the heart, this flower was an emblem of love and courtship in Victorian times and for centuries beforehand.

Look at the shape of these flowers, they look like butterflies! :)

Johnny Jump Up flowers are edible too. They add a lovely vintage touch to food and drinks. Here is a delicious example:

"Ultimate Lemon Mousse" served in a vintage Federal Glass custard cup on a vintage Pyrex plate.

Dreaming Playing and Creating

Just look at this gorgeous room! It's the dreaming, playing and creating space of Lynn Barron - talented crafter, artist and writer of the magical blog Sea Angels.

Lynn created this delightful curtain from vintage machine made cotton lace. The butterflys are made from a mixed selection of cotton fabrics from damaged vintage aprons.

Another fine example of clever upcycling, Lynn created this lovely blouse from a damaged vintage handmade tablecloth.

On occasion Lynn sells her creations on her blog. One day she may open an Etsy shop...no doubt there are many (me included) dreaming of the day she does!

Originally sourced in England, they were stored away for decades by their previous owner, and are one of my all time favourite vintage finds.

Here's another of my lucky eBay wins, my framed Buzza Motto print from 1938. The verse inspires me and I hope it inspires you too. I believe the verse is from the ancient Sanskrit. Their Song Birds

Handmade by a wife for her husband, this fabulous origami crane mobile was indeed a meaningful gift for the couple's first wedding anniversary (traditionally known as the paper anniversary). The couple I'm referring to are Helen and David - the gorgeous couple whose gorgeous swoon-worthy wedding I featured here last year - A Sydney Beach Wedding.

At Helen and David's wedding "The Way You Look Tonight" was the song that played for their first dance as a married couple. To create the cranes Helen used vintage "The Way You Look Tonight" sheet music. Helen also added some vintage glass beads left over from the wedding decorations to the mobile.

Creating the decorations and favours at her wedding reignited Helen's creative side, and she now has her own label of handmade lovelies. Next week I'll be featuring some of the handmade lovelies from Helen's range.

I recently purchased this simply lovely vintage flower picking basket from the fox and the spoon. I've visualized myself with a basket like this one for quite some time in my flower picking daydreams in expansive cottage gardens, wildflower-laden meadows, and along sun-dappled woodland paths...

Anyway in real life I'm mainly going to use this basket as a display and put some silk flowers in it. And I'm still going to keep daydreaming about picking flowers in the above mentioned places...

I made this tie from some gorgeous vintage Japanese kimono silk. In addition to wearing it as a necktie, I wear it as a waist tie and a hair tie.

My fave way to wear neck ties is loosened as above and tied in a Four-in-Hand Knot with various tops/blouses/t shirts.

Snazziness for Shoes

Shoes can be given a new look in an instant by simply adding shoe clips to them. Karen Robertson of ShoeClips.Biz was inspired to design a snazzy range of shoe clips after she received a box of vintage shoe clips as a gift.

At ShoeClips.Biz, there are many styles to choose from. You'll find rhinestones, flowers, bows and more, as well as unused original shoe clips that were previously stored in warehouses. Each clip is metal, hinged and detachable from shoes. Adhesive padding is included with each pair of clips and can be applied (if need be) to the underside of clips where they touch your feet.

Shell Sherree, talk about talent! I happened upon her delightful blog shortly before Christmas last year, and we've become good bloggy friends. A Sydney Beach Wedding

Swoon-worthy, simple and elegant, this wedding was photographed by the talented Marzena Wasilewska . The gorgeous couple, Helen and David, were married on a perfect summer's day in December last year at Shakespeare's Point in Nielsen Park, Sydney, Australia. Accented with French lace embellished with crystal beads, Helen's dreamy vintage inspired champagne silk chiffon dress was designed by the also talented Nina Field of Petal Bridal Couture.

Albert Hammond Jr.'s "Cartoon Music for Superheroes" played when Helen walked down the ailse decorated with tissue paper daisies made by Helen. Guests were given oiled rice paper parasols and sandlewood fans.

Helen and David wrote their own vows and some readings from A.A. Milne were included in the ceremony. "All You Need is Love" by The Beatles played when they were announced as Mr and Mrs.

Helen carried a vintage oiled rice paper parasol which I featured in my previous post.

Can you see "ALL WE NEED IS LOVE ♥♥♥" written in the clouds?

The reception was held at The Beach House Cafe in Nielsen Park which was built in 1914 and used to be a kiosk. Canapes and pink champagne were served.

And lime and coconut cupcakes made by Helen were also served. Helen decorated the cupcakes with tissue paper daisies with vintage button centres.

The flowers on the tables at the reception were arranged by Helen in vintage and preloved milk bottles, jars and vases.

Spring a Ding Ding!

As Spring has officially sprung here in Australia, I thought it would be fitting to feature some of my favourite vintage things that epitomise Spring!

I have a collection of mostly English ceramic vintage pomanders. Here are four from my collection. I purchased the first, third and fourth pomanders from English Preserves. The second one was a thrift shop find.

Ceramic pomanders each have a hole underneath where potpourri etc can be inserted, and also a number of holes on their tops and or sides allowing the fragrance to escape. I just add lavender essential oil to cotton wool balls and pop them inside my pomanders and refresh and replace as needed. I have them in various parts of my home. I'll show you more from my collection in the future.

Lavender sachet sweetly gifted to me by clever crafter Lisa from Rosamund. Lisa used a vintage handkerchief to create this lovely!

Fabulous vintage bling in near mint condition, rhinestones are a girl's best friend in the case of this rare cuff bangle! It features 21 sparkly rhinestones and 8 leaves. Made with a rich overlay of 14 kt white gold, this cuff bangle is by high quality brand Krementz, which closely resembles fine jewellery and is sought after by collectors.

Another 50's high quality bangle - Princess Mara by Marathon. This hinged hollow bangle is 12 kt gold filled. It features dainty etching with flowers and leaves, is in near mint condition, and comes in it's original box.

Tomorrow marks the one year blogoversary of Favourite Vintage Finds, hooray! I love being a part of the blogosphere, and I hugely appreciate your support and kindness dear bloggy friends, thank you! :)

To celebrate my blogoversary, I'm giving away this sweet delicate vintage 40's gold butterfly pendant. Featuring a natural garnet gemstone, this pendant is silver-gilt (sterling silver coated with a fine layer of gold), and bears the 925 (sterling silver) stamp on the back. It measures 1.2 cm across (half an inch). I purchased a job lot of 16 of these pendants and they set my heart aflutter, they are one of my all time favourite vintage finds. Stored away for decades by their previous owner, they were originally sourced in England.

Last year I gave away two of these pendants here and before the end of this year I will give another one away. I will be auctioning some gorgeous original vintage jewellery on ebay soon...stay tuned there will previews here.

I can't wait for Spring (next month here in Aussie). This delightful fabric banner has provided vintage inspired Springness to my home office since mid April this year thanks to talented crafter Camille from Camille's Creations. I won it in one of her blog giveaways! Kind Camille sent each entrant in the giveaway one of these banners!

And this is my also delightful ceramic hand painted Happy Hen. I named her Euphegenia. My parents bought her back for me from New Zealand 10 years ago. Euphengenia is based on a Silver Grey Dorking, one of the oldest breeds of chooks in the world. I'm a chook girl from way back having grown up with pet chooks. Someday I hope to live somewhere again that is suitable for real chooks. One of my real someday hens will definitely be named Euphegenia too.

Earlier in the year I participated in an online vintage swap for bloggers, and my swap partner was Dara from the USA. One of the items I sent Dara was a Wabasso double size flat sheet and she used it to make these funky lounge pants! They look fantastic, I want a pair! Dara loves to spend time in her greenhouse and garden and she certainly has a green thumb, her garden is inspirational!

Little Women written in 1867 by Louisa May Alcott is one of my favourite classic novels. I'm sure that many of you have read it and or seen the film adaptations. This is my copy from 1947 published by Grosset & Dunlap, New York, and illustrated beautifully by Louis Jambor. A favourite of mine to display also, it doesn't bother me that this book is missing its dust jacket as I love the charmingly quaint cover which is made from cloth.

Napkins Upcycled into Bedroom Decor & Giveaway Winner

A glimpse of my bedroom. The throw cushion covers on my bed are made (by Mum) from vintage 50's Wilendur "Princess Rose" cotton napkins. They feature my favourite rose print ever, the most resplendent I've seen, and are still ablaze with colour after all these years. Synonymous with quality table and kitchen linens and boldly coloured prints, Wilendur/Wilendure was produced from 1938-1984 in the USA. In 1958 Wilendur changed to Wilendure.

Can you see the book? It's a vintage book from 1947, one of my favourite classic novels, and with its charmingly quaint cover a favourite of mine to display also. I'll reveal the book in my next post...

I have a jar of buttons that I have had since my childhood. These are some of my favourite buttons from that jar. I went through a stage as a child where I was regularly delving for treasure in Mum's big tins of old and new buttons. My Green Chair

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you, this chair is orange, by green I mean eco-friendly. This chair is vintage 60's (with it's original fabric), and has a lot of character including some small holes in the fabric, and a not-so-small hole hidden by one of the shoulder covers. I've spruced it up by adding some fabulous vintage accents to it.

The shoulder covers were made by my wonderful Mum from vintage fabric. I purchased the cushion cover, also made from vintage fabric, from the online shop I purchased my lounge cushion covers from, William Morris Cushion Covers.

Cushions on My Couch & Vintage Alice in Wonderland Fabric

On my modern brown couch/sofa I have five throw cushions and they all have covers made from fabulous vintage fabrics.

William Morris (1834-1896) was an influential English designer. I love fabrics and anything really with William Morris designs and William Morris style designs. I purchased the five cushion covers above from an online shop, William Morris Cushion Covers (link is at the end of the post). The second cushion cover from the left features a design by William Morris. The other four cushion covers are made from William Morris style fabrics.

When I received the 40's/50's inspired Black Paris Dress with Flower from Stop Staring! I couldn't wait to try it on as I had heard and read many good things about the designs by Stop Staring! which are mainly 40's and 50's inspired.

* The cut is flattering. The thin belted high waistline and sweetheart neckline make my waist and neck appear elongated, and much to my delight this creates the illusion that I am taller and slimmer.

* It's well made in the USA from quality stretch bengaline fabric, and it's comfortable. The stretch in the fabric allows me to sit and stand and move around with ease.

* It's stylish and timeless, and is perfectly accented with a pink and green embroidered flower and self-fabric belt with pink fabric on the buckle.

* It's versatile, it can be worn at the office and for evening outings.

My thrifted vintage 70's ceramic pomander by Lownds Pateman

Just a little vintage cuteness to share with you before Valentines Day...I'm an incurable romantic...

Vintage pomanders make great girly gifts. This one has lavender potpourri inside and it smells divine! The fragrance escapes through holes that are on each side of the pomander. The potpourri can be easily removed and replaced. Try ebay and etsy if you are keen to buy.

My Favourite Vintage Bag

I have loved this bag for about 33 years. It was handmade with precision by my Dad for my Mum in 1952. I played dress ups with this bag regularly as a child.

When I was 2 years old I decided to add some toddler scribble to the inside of the flap. The scribble says "Mummy, can I have this bag...pretty please?" Mum recently gave me the bag :).

When you were a little girl, did you love to play dress ups with your Mother's and or other grown up women's fashions and accessories? I did. I would play dress ups with my Mum's treasure trove of fashions and accessories for hours, and I can really identify with this cuter than cute illustration I'm sharing with you today.

My lovely Mum was a deportment and grooming teacher in the 60's and 70's and the illustration is from one of her textbooks from 1964. The illustration is from a section in the book called "Accessories Make the Difference". Here is an excerpt: "Some girls can give a gilt-edged look to the simplest outfit by the way they use accessories. The difference between one girl's shirtdress and another's may hinge on a marvelous belt. Perhaps a handsome bag sets off the whole effect."

In my next post I am going to share my favourite vintage bag with you. It happens to be a bag I used to play dress ups with as a child and my Mum recently gave it to me...
